OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Aug. 3. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.
Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.
1. Tariff deadlines hit: President Donald Trump kicked off August with a new round of tariff taxes, including on goods from critical U.S. trading partner and fertilizer producer Canada. There is also talk of a rebate to taxpayers to cover the portion of increased costs that importers pass along to consumers, though the dollar amounts discussed would not be significant in terms of farm businesses. For the latest on the new tariff taxes, see here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….
2. Digital Yield Tour prep: We're gearing up for our annual DTN Digital Yield Tour, which will take place the week of Aug. 10. Our reporting will feature the latest results of DTN yield models as well as reporting from the field on crop conditions. Watch for more details of the tour throughout the week.
3. August comes in cool: The front that brought scattered showers into the weekend should move through the Midwest early this week, continuing the chance for scattered showers in the Corn Belt. Mild to cool weather should be in place east of the Rockies early in the week, but may take a short increase in Southern Plains to the Midwest before another front moves through this weekend into the second week of August.
4. International conditions: Showers have been favoring the western end of the Black Sea region this week, with hotter and drier conditions across the east. That should help with wheat maturity and harvest but be tough on corn across dry areas in Ukraine and southwestern Russia. In Brazil, southern areas will see more showers, hampering corn harvest, which is winding down. Argentina should also see showers, adding soil moisture for the country's winter wheat crop.
